Sgt. Joseph Bernard Adkison (1892-1965), from Tipton County was one of six Tennesseans who were awarded the prestigious Congressional Medal of Honor during WWI. Adkison served with Co. C, 119th Infantry, 30th Division and was cited for bravery on Sept. 29, 1918 during the Battle of St. Quentin Canal at Bellicourt, France. Picture courtesy of the Tennessee State Museum.
